The Power of Your Library Card
The River Vale Free Public Library is a member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS). This consortium of 77 public libraries delivers quality library service to the general public through sharing of books and other materials, purchasing, maintaining and sharing a computer system and providing common access to the cooperative's databases. Your River Vale Library card enables you to access the collections of all members of the cooperative by using the BCCLS online catalog.
All residents of River Vale are eligible for a free library card. Proof of residency, such as driver's license or utility bill, is required to obtain a card. It is very important that you supply us with your email address so that we can contact you when an item you have requested is ready for pickup or an item is overdue. You can begin the application process online here.
If you already have a library card it is important to keep track of the items on your card. You can either visit the BCCLS homepage or use the form ***on the right*** to keep your items and information up to date.
Most books are available for a four week loan period. Exceptions are "New" fiction and non-fiction titles which have a loan period of two weeks.
Blu-Rays and DVDs have a loan period of seven to fourteen days with the exception of "New" titles which have a loan period of three days.
Audio Books and Music CDs have a loan period of two weeks.
River Vale items are available for renewal on a limited basis if there are no reserves on the item. Items from other BCCLS libraries are subject to the owning library's loan and renewal periods.
