The River Vale Free Public Library is a member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS). This consortium of 77 public libraries delivers quality library service to the general public through sharing of books and other materials, purchasing, maintaining and sharing a computer system and providing common access to the cooperative's data bases. Your River Vale Library card enables you to access the collections of all members of the cooperative by using the BCCLS online catalog.

Volunteering

Need volunteer hours? The River Vale Library always needs volunteers to help shelve items, manage the collection, prepare programming materials and assist in other tasks throughout the year. Should you be interested, do not hesitate to visit or call the library to speak with a staff member about scheduling volunteer hours.
Study Hall

The library's Community Room is available as a Study Hall from 3:00-4:00pm on school days. Students may bring a snack, which must be eaten in the Community Room. No food is allowed on the main floor of the library.
Library CARDS

We encourage all students to obtain a library card. Register with one of your parents who will demonstrate River Vale residency with a driver's license or utility bill. Obtain a PIN when you register so that you can renew items online and avoid fines. Your library card will permit you to remotely access the library's catalog and databases for your school work.
a note about behavior...
The library welcomes students who are engaged in activities appropriate to the library setting. During the school year the library experiences very high attendance at the close of the school day. Middle school students, in particular, are heavy users of the facility between 3:00 and 5:00pm. Students visiting the library after school are expected to abide by all of the directives regarding proper behavior in the library. The library reserves the right to request identification from students engaged in unacceptable behavior so that their parents, caretakers and/or the police may be contacted. Repeated instances of unacceptable behavior by students will result in the student’s suspension or revocation of library privileges.
