The River Vale Free Public Library is a member of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS). This consortium of 77 public libraries delivers quality library service to the general public through sharing of books and other materials, purchasing, maintaining and sharing a computer system and providing common access to the cooperative's data bases. What are some indicators of a Level G text?
Sentences are longer with many embedded clauses
Several high frequency words which increase in difficulty
Large number of decodable words with regular and irregular patterns
Several episodes with a variety of characters
Ideas and vocabulary are more challenging with some specialized vocabulary
Story line is carried by text
Pictures support and extend meaning
Readers are expected to remember information and action over a longer reading time
How do I know if my child is a Level G reader?
Continue to understand different genres
Read 3 - 8 lines of text per page; text is smaller
Read difficult words by using letter/sound information, thinking of familiar words and taking apart words
Read text with a few challenging vocabulary words
Automatically read high frequency words (all, are, be, but, for, got, had, of, on, then, this, your)
